If you submitted a Greener Homes Loan application before the October 1st, 2025 deadline, you’re probably wondering what’s happening with your file. The short answer: it’s coming, but it’s taking a while.
Current Processing Times
Due to the high volume of applications submitted just before the deadline, processing times have been averaging 3-4 months. This is longer than many homeowners expected, but the program is working through the backlog.
What you should do while waiting:
- Check your email regularly—including spam and junk folders
- Log into your Greener Homes Loan portal every week or two to check for status updates
- Respond quickly if they request additional information (delays in responding can push your file to the back of the queue)
Planning Ahead: Your Post-Upgrade Evaluation
Once you receive approval and complete your upgrades, you’ll need one more step before your loan is finalised: a post-upgrade EnerGuide evaluation completed by a Natural Resources Canada licensed Energy Advisor.
This evaluation compares your home’s energy performance after improvements to the baseline evaluation done before your upgrades. It’s a requirement for completing your Greener Homes file and accessing your loan funds.

Can’t Reach Your Original Energy Advisor?
Here’s something many homeowners are discovering: with the closing of the Greener Homes program, many Energy Advisors have left the business. Phone numbers are disconnected. Emails go unanswered.
If you cannot contact the Energy Advisor who completed your original pre-upgrade evaluation, don’t panic. You don’t need the same advisor to complete your post-upgrade evaluation.
